Richard Obura: A New Political Force in Dokolo South Ahead of 2026 Elections

Richard Obura, commonly known as the “Political Game Changer,” has caused panic among many of his fellow contestants after declaring his interest in the position of Member of Parliament for Dokolo in the 2026 general elections.

Obura told The AnkoleTimes that he has secured five new taxis, a Prado, a pick-up, a full music system, and a media van to transport his team during the consultation period.

According to him, he has crafted the best manifesto to present to the people of Dokolo, as everything is now set for him to join the 12th Parliament. Obura is the son of a prominent figure, Mzee Odur, who had a strong background in good leadership.

This, he says, is why voters from all categories are now massively supporting the vibrant, youthful politician against the long-serving Member of Parliament for Dokolo South, Hon. Felix Okot Ogong, in the upcoming 2026 elections.

One of the district councilors of Dokolo narrated to our reporter that many in the party believe Obura must go to Parliament this time, as they need a young, vibrant leader. He added that the party, both at the regional and central levels, is indirectly backing Obura to replace MP Okot Ogong, regardless of the circumstances in 2026. The belief is that MP Okot Ogong has overstayed in Parliament and should allow younger people to take over leadership while he offers guidance as a political elder.

However, during the by-election, MP Okot, while rallying votes for the NRM candidate, Adongo Elau, confirmed that he would again contest in the upcoming elections to retain his seat.

Obura, who is viewed by many in Dokolo South as a modern-day David (from the Bible), said he is ready to challenge and vowed to defeat the incumbent MP Okot Ogong. Obura added that it is shocking to see Dokolo South lagging behind in terms of development, including electricity stability, despite being led by individuals who claim to have powerful connections. He emphasized that this is not reflected on the ground.

“I will ensure effective leadership and offer development through networking and lobbying. Our youth need to be empowered economically and morally,” said Obura.

He also disclosed that he has consulted with NRM party members in Dokolo South regarding his decision to run for the MP seat, and they have promised to support him fully. A source within some NRM supporters in Dokolo district has also informed the media that powerful individuals and businessmen are impressed with Obura’s decision to join the political race for the 2026 general elections.

Obura is an ICT expert, knowledgeable, and consistently pro-community. He has promised to use his expertise in ICT to promote vocational training skills for the youth. Very soon, he plans to meet with all the youth in the sub-counties of Dokolo to discuss socio-economic empowerment.
