Lira, Uganda – Honourable Awor Sarah Angweri, the Female Workers’ Representative for Lira City, while addressing members of the press on Sunday afternoon, emphasized the need to reduce corruption and urged unity among leaders who are politically intimidating the people (Wanahinci) in the city.

“I will not be intimidated. I will contest for the position of Lira City Woman MP under the NRM party ticket in the 2026 general elections,” said Sarah Awor Angweri.

The Female Workers’ Councilor for Lira City has reaffirmed her bid to contest for the position of Woman Member of Parliament for Lira City in the 2026 elections under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket with great confidence.

Speaking at a press briefing at Gracious Place Hotel on December 29, 2024, Awor expressed gratitude to those who supported her during her recent legal battle and made strong accusations against some local authorities—whom she did not name—whom she claims are working to weaken her political progress in 2026.

“I want to thank the workers I represent at City Council for standing by me and breaking the chain of intimidation against me because of their prayers and support. May God bless you as we continue fighting for the freedom of our country and its people from corrupt leaders,” said Awor.

Recently, Hon. Sarah Awor Angweri and Hon. Speaker Daniel Okello of Lira City West Division were arrested on December 17 during a monitoring exercise at Adyel Children’s Park on accusations of inciting violence. She was later released on court bail on December 23, 2024, from Lira Court.

Meanwhile, Hon. Awor is hopeful that by 2026, she will be the NRM party’s flag bearer for the Woman MP seat in Lira City. She promised to fight corruption, promote unity among Lira City residents, and advocate for sustainable development in the city.

Awor thanked H.E. Yoweri Museveni for his clear vision of wealth creation but urged him to humbly meet with her during his upcoming tour of PDM in the Lango sub-region, as she has something important to share with the President about PDM that could benefit the country.

“The corrupt must change in all departments, including PDM,” said Sarah.
