Bufumbira South Wins Bobosi Byaruhanga Football Tournament in Kisoro

Bufumbira South football team emerged victorious in the Bobosi Byaruhanga Football Tournament, sponsored by Robert Mukiza, Executive Director of the Uganda Investment Authority. They defeated Bukimbiri County 1-0 in the final match.

The tournament was established to honor Uganda Cranes midfielder and Austin FC player, Bobosi Byaruhanga.

Six teams participated in the one-day event: Bufumbira South County, Kisoro District Local Government, Bufumbira North County, Bukimbiri County, Kisoro Municipality, and Bufumbira East.

Bufumbira South, the champions, received a trophy, a cash prize of one million Ugandan shillings, and gold medals. The runners-up, Bukimbiri County, were awarded a cash prize of 500,000 Ugandan shillings.

Michael Nizeyimana, captain of the Bufumbira South football team, expressed his delight at the victory. He acknowledged the team’s challenges, including a subpar playing field and financial constraints. Nizeyimana stated, “Although we have won the tournament, we have encountered numerous challenges, particularly with the poor quality of the playing field and financial constraints. We thank Bobosi Byaruhanga for promoting talent in Kisoro District.”

Bobosi Byaruhanga, the Ugandan midfielder, encouraged talented individuals to strive for excellence and prioritize discipline in their football careers. He emphasized, “Kisoro District possesses immense talent, but financial limitations pose a significant challenge.

I would be delighted to see all talented individuals in Kisoro District receive the necessary support. I urge the talented youth in Kisoro to maintain discipline to enhance their skills both nationally and internationally.”

Edson Tumwizere, the Kisoro District Sports Officer, thanked the organizers and called upon those with the means to contribute to the development of a stadium-quality playing field. Tumwizere stated, “I want to express my gratitude to Dr. Chris Mukiza for sponsoring this fantastic tournament, and we urge him to continue supporting this initiative.”

Robert Mukiza, Executive Director of the Uganda Investment Authority, affirmed his commitment to collaborating with the Kisoro District Local Government to continue organizing such tournaments for the benefit of present and future generations.

Mukiza stated, “I will consistently organize this tournament annually as a means of fostering unity and creating a social gathering for the people of Kisoro. I commend Bobosi Byaruhanga for his outstanding representation of Kisoro and the Kigezi region as a whole.
