Liverpool have sacked head coach Arne Slot, just one year after he guided the club to the Premier League title.

Slot leaves Anfield with immediate effect following a difficult campaign in which Liverpool failed to defend their crown and ended the season without winning any silverware, despite significant investment in the previous summer’s transfer window.

The Dutchman’s position came under increasing pressure as results deteriorated throughout the season. Liverpool suffered 19 defeats across all competitions, while a series of poor performances led to growing frustration among supporters. Reports also suggest there was unrest within the dressing room, with star forward Mohamed Salah among the most vocal critics.

Club sources say the decision was made with “enormous reluctance”, acknowledging that dismissing a manager who delivered only Liverpool’s second league title in 30 years feels harsh. However, the club’s hierarchy believe a change is necessary to give the team the best chance of progressing.

It is understood that Liverpool’s leadership wants the side to evolve towards a more aggressive, high-intensity style of play. That vision echoes comments made by Salah earlier this month, when he called for a return to the “heavy metal football” associated with former manager Jurgen Klopp.

The search for Slot’s successor is expected to begin immediately as Liverpool look to rebuild and challenge for major honours once again.
