Makerere University “anti-tuition increment” activist David Musiri has declared his intention to challenge Hon. Allan Ssewanyana for the position of MP for Makindye West. During an exclusive appearance on a local television interview, Musiri officially announced his candidacy.

The youthful, vibrant, and charming leader expressed confidence that he is ideally suited for the role and possesses all the necessary qualities. Musiri believes that the constituency requires a leadership style like his.

“In 2026, I am prepared to run for Member of Parliament for Makindye West. I am fully equipped, and the constituency demands leadership like mine,” David Musiri stated.

It’s important to note that Ssewanyana has held the MP position for Makindye West since 2016, and the upcoming year will mark the completion of two full terms in office. Initially elected on the DP ticket, he won his last election as a candidate for NUP.

During this term, the former LCV councilor has faced various personal and legal challenges, including his incarceration alongside the late MP Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya on accusations related to the 2021 massacres in the Greater Masaka Region.

He has maintained a relatively low profile, and it remains uncertain if he will seek election again in the upcoming general polls. For now, however, Musiri has made his intentions known.

Moreover, Musiri, who encountered significant challenges during his time at Makerere University, particularly regarding his advocacy for equitable and fair education at Uganda’s top university, shared insights about his journey at the institution.

“I enrolled in 2017, coinciding with the discussions surrounding the Togikwatako bill. I was assigned to Nkrumah Hall.”
