Lawyer and activist Agather Atuhaire has disclosed that Yasin Mukubabyasi, also known as Machete, a close bodyguard of Bobiwine, is in dire condition after having been on a hunger strike since last month.
Agather, who visited him in Luzira prison, remarked that he was unrecognizable, having become extremely thin. She added that in addition to being pushed around in a wheelchair, he struggles to articulate his words and expressed his willingness to die rather than waste away in prison, especially since he is unaware of any crime he has committed against President Museveni.
According to information obtained by this website, security forces are unwilling to release Machete with tumultuous elections approaching, having been informed that, like Eddie Mutwe, Gen Machete is one of Bobiwine’s loyal and determined bodyguards.
He has for long refused to betray or disclose any information about his leader, even when offered significant sums of money. During the 2021 elections, Machete was reportedly approached by former presidential candidate Gen Tumukunde to switch allegiance and incite panic for Museveni by orchestrating riots in Kampala and other major cities.
However, Machete turned down both the plan and the millions of shillings he was offered, stating that he could not betray his leader, Bobiwine. Machete’s loyalty and dedication earned him the affection of NUP president. It’s said that Bobi Wine occasionally would give him money intended for all party members to ensure its delivery without taking any for himself, unlike many other members of the party such as Mpuuga, Kazibwe Bashir, Kagabo, and Bagala.
