In preparation for the Easter festivities, the Police in the Kigezi sub-region have released a set of safety guidelines aimed at ensuring the well-being of motorists and the general public.
According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, operators of entertainment venues and places of worship are strongly encouraged to enhance their security protocols throughout the celebrations.
Maate specifically emphasized the importance of deploying walk-through scanners and metal detectors at all entry points as a proactive measure against potential threats.
Addressing road safety, Maate appealed to all motorists to exercise utmost discipline while driving. He stressed the necessity of strict adherence to the Highway Code and cautioned against over-speeding, highlighting the challenging terrain of the region as a significant risk.
Furthermore, he issued a stern warning against driving under the influence of alcohol and advised travelers to avoid undertaking long return journeys in a single day to prevent fatigue. Drivers were also reminded to verify the roadworthiness of their vehicles before commencing any travel.
Maate urged all residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious individuals or unattended items to the nearest police station or local authorities.
