Ukrainian artillerymen have successfully destroyed a Russian Msta S self propelled artillery system in a precise and devastating attack, the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed on 29 April. The action was carried out by the artillery brigade named after Grand Duke Vytautas, also known as Prince Vitovt, who shared video footage of the attack with the Khortytsia Joint Forces Operation group.
The footage captured the dramatic moment the 2S19 Msta S, a heavy Russian self propelled gun, was struck and completely destroyed. The Ukrainian soldiers involved in the mission described the result as “bright and irreversible”, suggesting the Russian vehicle and its crew were eliminated beyond recovery.
The 2S19 Msta S is a Soviet era artillery system capable of firing 152 millimetre shells at high rates over long distances. It is considered a valuable piece of Russian battlefield equipment. Its destruction marks a continued effort by Ukraine’s military to reduce Russia’s artillery superiority through advanced targeting and drone coordination.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have increasingly relied on drone surveillance and precision targeting to eliminate Russian positions, artillery units and supply depots. Recently, border guards in the Kharkiv region were seen using drones to destroy Russian ammunition depots, vehicles, and concentrations of troops.
In a separate report, members of the Azov Corps published a video of the interrogation of three captured Russian soldiers. According to the footage, the Russians attempted to storm Ukrainian positions using scooters and motorcycles, underscoring the Kremlin’s increasing desperation on the battlefield.
