The Obongi District Councillor for Itula and Gimara Sub-Counties, Hon. Rukia Yukuwe, has defected from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Hon. Rukia Yukuwe, a former staunch FDC supporter and mobilizer in Obongi District, publicly announced her defection during preparations to welcome President Yoweri Museveni to Yumbe recently.
The official defection ceremony took place at the Resident District Commissioner’s (RDC) office in Obongi District, where the RDC, Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, represented the National Chairperson of the NRM, H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Hon. Rukia Yukuwe stated that she decided to switch from the FDC to the NRM due to the improved service delivery resulting from the fight against corruption, spearheaded by the RDC, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka.
The RDC, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, officially presented Hon. Rukia Yukuwe to the District Chairperson of Obongi, who is also the NRM Chairperson, Mr. Abibu Buga Kemis, the District Speaker, Mr. Abdul Rahman, and the NRM Women’s League Chairperson, Ms. Gasia Fatima.
This handover occurred during a groundbreaking ceremony for the maintenance of the Ngungu-Obugubu road, held recently at Gimara Sub-County headquarters.
Hon. Rukia Yukuwe repeatedly chanted, “Museveni Oyee! NRM Oyee!” and pledged to campaign for the NRM in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Displaying the NRM thumb sign, Hon. Yukuwe thanked the RDC, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, for his significant role in enhancing service delivery in Obongi District and fostering unity among NRM party members.
