The Prime Minister of the Bugisu Cultural Institution, Rt. Hon. Dr. Paul Mwambu, has left for China on official duties.

Dr. Paul Mwambu, who is also the Commissioner in charge of Crop Inspection and Seed Certification under the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of Uganda, departed for China yesterday aboard Ethiopian Airlines, representing Uganda on an international agricultural stage.

Government work aside, Steven Masiga, the spokesperson of the cultural institution, told The Ankole Times that Rt. Hon. Dr. Paul Mwambu, who serves as the Prime Minister of the Bugisu Cultural Institution—appointed by the Umukuka of the Bamasaaba people—will, while in China, engage the Bamasaaba community on the sidelines of the summit.

The Umukuka III of the Bamasaaba people, His Highness Sir Jude Mike Mudoma, has also assigned him to specifically engage the Bamasaaba in China and encourage them to support the Government of Uganda, support the Bamasaaba community back home, and invest in their homeland.

Mr. Steven Masiga said the Prime Minister’s itinerary includes visiting the Ugandan Embassy in China to pay a cultural courtesy call to Her Excellency Oliver Wonekha, the Ugandan Ambassador to China, as well as engaging with the wider Bamasaaba community living in China.

The Bamasaaba Cultural Institution is on excellent terms with the Chinese business community. Recently, the Prime Minister wrote to the Chinese community in Uganda, requesting support in providing basic necessities, particularly for those displaced by landslides in Bulambuli, and there was an excellent response from the Sino Industrial Park Uganda.

Dr. Paul Mwambu also recently donated several tonnes of maize seedlings to Bamasaaba clan chairmen and has vowed to mobilize Masabaland and beyond toward self-reliance in agricultural development.
