Lira: Fuso Lorry Overturns at Amach Market, Killing Two

Lango sub region is mourning the death of two people who were killed in a fatal accident at Amach Market in Lira district on Saturday morning.

According to the Police PRO SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, two people have been confirmed dead in the accident that occurred on August 26, 2023 at around 11:50 a.m. in Amach market, around Majan areas.

It is alleged that one vehicle, motor vehicle registration number UBN 247J, a Fuso lorry, which had carried Coca-Cola products, lost control and rammed into a stationary vehicle registration number UBD 603N Isuzu and a trailer KCL 963S/ZB 9924 which was coming from Dokolo side.

The two dead bodies have been identified as Atim Irene, a 30-year-old female resident of Teso bar, and Akoli Proscovia, a 38-year-old resident of Cuk Kibang in Lira-City West Division.

The body of the deceased has been conveyed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital’s mortuary pending postmortem.

However, the vehicle was towed to Lira-City CPS pending IOV inspection by the traffic department.




Mr. Okema added that the cause of the accident is under investigation, though preliminary findings indicate that M/V UBN 247J which had carried Coca-Cola products was over speeding.

He appealed to motorists to be careful on the road and to avoid over speeding.
