The Headmistress and learners of Nakaloke SSS today recommended to the Bamasaaba cultural institution the idea of establishing Shisakati — the Bamasaaba equivalent of Ekisakati, a common mentoring program among the Baganda on matters of culture, etiquette, and other values.

Last week, the spokesperson of the Bamasaaba cultural institution visited Nakaloke SSS to engage learners in a cultural talk, where he cautioned them against negative vices that contradict Bamasaaba norms.

Mr. Steven Masiga, the spokesperson for the Bamasaaba cultural institution, challenged all learners across Masaabaland to focus on education, which is paid for by the state.

He preached against:

  • Alcoholism
  • Narcotics consumption
  • Indecent dressing
  • Gang involvement in schools and communities
  • Criminality of any sort

He also presented disturbing statistics on drug addiction and the health of learners in Masaabaland.

Masiga reminded the learners about the cultural imbalu calendar, which is scheduled for the end of every even year — for example, December 2026.

He said such a well-designed program gives learners ample time to concentrate on their studies, and noted that even after fulfilling one’s cultural responsibilities, a learner remains a student until completing the full educational cycle from primary to university.

Masiga also reminded learners about government support such as the Higher Education Fund, meant to assist those pursuing science and tourism courses at university. He added that Umukuka III, His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, is mobilizing his subjects in the USA, UK, and other places to contribute to a special education fund to support learning in Masaabaland.

The Headmistress and learners of Nakaloke SSS petitioned Umukuka III for the introduction of Shisakati, and Masiga pledged to present these demands to the Umukuka and his cabinet.

Learners also showcased what they have been learning — including a demonstration on how to create light using obsolete batteries.
