Ntungamo, Uganda – Police in Ntungamo on Tuesday evening arrested five supporters of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) Party at their offices in Ntungamo Town, accusing them of participating in an illegal assembly and wearing party colors in public without clearance.

The arrests followed a meeting held earlier that day to launch PFF activities in the district. According to the police, the gathering constituted an unauthorized assembly and procession through the town.

The operation was led by the Officer in Charge of ICT at Ntungamo Police, Mr. Enock Musiime, who reportedly ordered the arrest of all individuals found wearing PFF T-shirts.

Those detained include:

  • Mr. Richard Agaba Babyorozya, PFF Publicity Secretary
  • Mr. Jackson Namanya, Secretary General
  • Mr. Joseph Mwesigye
  • Mr. John Kabagambe
  • Mr. Patrick Arinaitwe

Ntungamo District Police Commander, Mr. Joshua Mwesigwa, confirmed the arrests and stated that the group is being investigated for organizing an illegal assembly and marching through Ntungamo Town without prior authorization from the authorities.

However, PFF District Treasurer Ms. Alice Kafoda refuted the police claims, saying the supporters had only walked about 500 meters from the meeting venue to their party offices and had not engaged in any disruptive or unlawful activities.

Earlier in the day, the party meeting had proceeded without incident. It was addressed by several prominent PFF leaders, including:

  • Ms. Salamu Musumba, PFF Speaker
  • Mr. Wafula Oguttu, former Leader of Opposition in Parliament
  • Mr. Naboth Namanya, MP for Rubabo County
  • Mr. Wycliffe Bakandonda, former PFF Electoral Commission Chairperson
  • Mr. Stanley Katembeya, Head of PFF in Ankole Region
