A Ugandan woman, identified only as Essey, tragically lost her life in India after she was found dead near Manesar along the Delhi–Jaipur highway after reportedly being gang rap3d. Local media report that her body was discovered early on Sunday morning with minimal clothing and visible injuries, prompting suspicion of murder.
Authorities believe sexual assault may have been involved. Two suspects have been detained and are currently under interrogation.
The Gurgaon police have launched an investigation, scouring CCTV footage along the highway and nearby areas to trace her final movements. A postmortem is expected to provide further clarity on the nature of her injuries and the series of events that led to her death.
The Ugandan embassy in India has been notified and is in close contact with local authorities to assist Essey’s family. Arrangements are underway to repatriate her body to Uganda for burial, though logistics are still being confirmed.
Essey traveled from Kampala to India seeking better opportunities but her life was tragically cut short. Her death highlights the vulnerabilities faced by foreign nationals living abroad. India’s authorities face growing pressure to enhance safety for immigrants and foreign visitors as the country has cut an image of sexual perversion especially towards female foreigners.
