The Police in Naggalama Division, Mukono district, are actively searching for a headteacher from Nakifuma county who is accused of defiling and impregnating a Primary Seven (P7) pupil.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango has identified the suspect as Otim Jolly Joe, who serves as the headteacher of Orphanage and Primary School.
In August 2023, at Busenya village, Nakifuma, Nagalama town council, Otim allegedly engaged in the aggravated defilement of a 14-year-old Primary Seven pupil from his school.
According to Onyango, during the holidays, the suspect called the victim to his home, which is located on the school premises. Once inside, Otim reportedly closed the door, forcibly undressed her, and engaged in sexual intercourse with her.
In September, Otim gave the victim 5,000 Ugandan shillings for a medical check-up, during which she was found to be pregnant. On September 30, 2023, Otim allegedly provided the victim with 60,000 Ugandan shillings to carry out an abortion, but medical workers refused and alerted the school director and the victim’s mother.
Upon discovering that the information had become known, Otim disappeared from the school and went into hiding. It has also been reported that the victim, accompanied by one of her female teachers, attempted to have an abortion and is currently on the run.
In another case of defilement, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga revealed that in greater Bushenyi, Bushenyi district, Amanya Cryton, aged 18, of Buhuma cell, Ishaka division, is in custody for the aggravated defilement of two seven-year-old female twin juveniles and primary pupils on October 4, 2023.
According to Enanga, one of the twins ran to her mother at Kijumo trading centre and reported that the suspect had attempted to defile them. The mother rushed home and found her other twin daughter naked and being defiled. The victim disclosed that this was the third occasion on which the suspect had defiled her.
The village chairperson was alerted, leading to the suspect’s arrest. Medical examinations revealed that the suspect had repeatedly defiled the female twins.
Enanga emphasized the condemnation of child sexual abuse, particularly by teachers and caretakers who are expected to protect and defend the rights of children, especially girls. Police are actively working to locate the headteacher Otim, who is on the run, while Amanya Cryton will be charged in court with two counts of aggravated defilement.
