Lira City, Uganda – Levi Abongo, the Headteacher of Lira Town College, has expressed gratitude to the government for allocating significant student vacancies for Senior One and Senior Five admissions. Speaking to the media from his office on Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Abongo confirmed that 435 slots are available for Senior One and 530 for Senior Five, with only a few remaining vacancies as of now.
Lira Town College, a government-aided secondary school offering both “O” and “A” level education, is located in the heart of Lira City. The school has fully implemented the new curriculum from Senior One to Senior Six, with its pioneer candidates set to sit their final exams this year. The school’s academic performance remains strong, with 388 candidates excelling in the recent Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations, securing grades A and B.
Under the motto “No Pain, No Gain,” Abongo emphasized the school’s commitment to academic excellence. “We are doing all it takes to move from the left to the right academically,” he stated, urging parents to recognize the significant improvements made since his tenure began at Lira Town College.
New Board of Governors Appointed
In a related development, the school has unveiled its newly approved Board of Governors, appointed by the Minister of State for Higher Education and Sports. The board, whose term runs from October 29, 2025, to October 29, 2028, includes:
