HOIMA CITY – Police in the Albertine South Region have arrested four staff members of Hoima Regional Referral Hospital over allegations of extorting money from a patient seeking CT scan services.
The arrests were confirmed by the Albertine South Regional Police spokesperson, SP Julius Allan Hakiiza, who said the suspects were apprehended as part of the Uganda Police Force’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption in public institutions.
According to Hakiiza, the four health workers are accused of demanding money from a patient in exchange for accessing CT scan services at the regional referral hospital.
He strongly condemned the alleged misconduct, saying such actions undermine public trust in the healthcare system and deny patients access to essential medical services.
“As the Uganda Police Force, we remain steadfast in fighting corruption and warn health workers against engaging in such unlawful acts,” Hakiiza said.
He emphasized that police will continue taking firm action against individuals who exploit vulnerable patients through extortion and other corrupt practices.
The arrests come amid growing efforts by law enforcement agencies to tackle corruption in public service institutions and ensure that Ugandans receive government services without being subjected to illegal charges.
Police said investigations into the matter are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to face the law as inquiries continue.
