MBARARA CITY – Timber traders along Victor Bwana Road in Mbarara City are counting heavy losses after a devastating fire swept through a timber and furniture market, destroying workshops and property worth millions of shillings.
The fire broke out on Monday night and quickly spread through the market, engulfing timber stocks, furniture, and other business property before emergency responders arrived at the scene.
Although the full extent of the damage is yet to be established, several traders lost their workshops and merchandise in the inferno, leaving many uncertain about how they will recover from the disaster.
Authorities responded to the incident and managed to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby businesses.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and investigations have been launched to determine what sparked the inferno.
Affected traders expressed shock over the incident, saying the fire had destroyed their livelihoods and calling for support as they begin assessing the losses.
Police and other relevant authorities have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue, with officials expected to release more details once the cause of the fire has been determined.
