Kenya Airways hosted a reception on Saturday night to honor the crew of flight KQ100, which was diverted due to a security concern last Thursday. The national carrier praised the crew for their professionalism and dedication during the incident.

In a statement released on Sunday through its communication platform, Kenya Airways commended the crew for their handling of the situation. The airline expressed pride in the team’s leadership and their strict adherence to aviation security training, which ensured the safety and well-being of all passengers on board.

The event was attended by several Kenya Airways officials, including KQ Group MD and CEO Allan Kilavuka, COO Capt George Kamal, CFO Hellen Mwariri, and Fleet Manager B787 Capt Ahmed Hassan, among others.

Kenya Airways characterized the reception as a token of appreciation for the crew, recognizing their courage and commitment in managing the security diversion.

On October 12, flight KQ100, a Boeing 787 en route to Heathrow, was intercepted by Royal Air Force (RAF) fighter jets and diverted to Stansted Airport in response to a “potential security threat.”

Kenya Airways reported that upon receiving the security alert, they conducted a comprehensive risk assessment in collaboration with security authorities. The crew on board was briefed, and all necessary safety and security measures were taken to ensure the well-being of the passengers and crew.

Kenya Airways clarified that there were no security issues with the Boeing 787 flight before or after the diversion. CEO Allan Kilavuka explained that the precautionary measures were taken due to suspicion concerning some individuals on board, but they did not relate to a bomb threat or similar serious security concerns. Kilavuka emphasized that these actions were taken to ensure the safety of all on board.
