In a recent incident, a Ugandan man named William Ojangole, who had joined the Christ Disciples’ Church (CDC) and fled his hometown of Teso, has passed away in Ethiopia. William, a father of 22 children, fell ill on a Saturday evening and subsequently passed away before being taken to the hospital.

William Ojangole’s death occurred in Nyagantom, Ethiopia, and he was laid to rest on Sunday, October 15, 2023. He had migrated to Ethiopia earlier due to the belief that doomsday was impending in Uganda.

William Ojangole’s son, Joseph Okuda, who remained in Uganda, revealed that his father, along with seven of his children and his wife, Rose Akiteng, had left Uganda to avoid the doomsday they believed was going to strike their hometown of Serere district.

When William Ojangole fell ill, his family attempted to transport him to the hospital but, unfortunately, he passed away during the arrangements. Joseph Okuda received the news of his father’s demise from his brothers.

In an effort to bring William Ojangole’s remains back to Uganda, the family sought assistance from Hellen Adoa, the Woman Member of Parliament for Serere District and the State Minister for Fisheries. Adoa stated that she is in the process of reaching out to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for support.

It is worth noting that earlier this year, the Christ Disciples’ Church in Serere managed to persuade over 270 people to sell their properties and land, claiming that doomsday would originate from there. These individuals, most of whom were children, are yet to return to Uganda. The local authorities are now urging the government to facilitate the repatriation of these victims.

The leader of the CDC team that migrated to Ethiopia, Vincent Ocen, who had been interviewed in February, stated that they had received clearance from the immigration department and the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) to travel to Nyangatom to spread their religious message. Efforts to contact Vincent Ocen for an update on the situation were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
