Huawei has declared its commitment to offer a minimum of 500 training opportunities at the ongoing national ICT job fair located at Kololo Independence Grounds.
During the opening ceremony of the annual ICT job fair, Huawei’s Managing Director, Xie Qiuxiang, revealed that the company previously provided 15 internship positions, and these interns have now transitioned into full-time employees.
Qiuxiang announced, “This year, we will continue to provide 15 internship positions. Additionally, we will also allocate 500 free training spots for advanced ICT technologies to those who register with us during and after this job fair. I encourage all interested individuals to make the most of these opportunities to enhance their employability. Such certifications play a pivotal role in securing future employment or in building more efficient businesses.”
He emphasized that Huawei and its customers have jointly embarked on network development, progressing from 2G to 3G and 4G networks, with their current focus on the 5G network.
Qiuxiang expressed his optimism, stating, “With the government’s attention and support, Uganda is poised to have the fastest network speeds, the lowest tariffs, and the best communication experience in East Africa. Our vision and mission are to bring digital connectivity to every individual, household, and organization for a fully connected and intelligent world. We are eager to collaborate with Uganda to realize a fully connected and intelligent Uganda, while recognizing the vital role of talent in the advancement of ICT technologies.”
Huawei’s Managing Director for Uganda mentioned their collaboration with 15 universities in the country to establish ICT academies aimed at training Ugandans. “Each year, we provide training in the most advanced ICT technologies to approximately 50,000 Ugandans at no cost. Students from these ICT academies also participate in global ICT competitions. In May 2023, four teams from Uganda competed in China and secured the second prize among more than 500 universities from 16 countries.”
In addition to their ICT talent training initiatives, Huawei has implemented various corporate social responsibility programs, including Digitruck, in conjunction with the Ministry of Gender, benefiting 10,000 individuals across the country over three years.
The Managing Director further noted, “We have extended free Huawei cloud resource support for three years to certain SMEs, encompassing sectors such as e-ticketing, BPO, and innovation, among others. A better you contributes to a better Uganda; Huawei is ready to collaborate with Uganda to offer the world’s most advanced technologies and enhance ICT talent development. I firmly believe that ICT technologies will significantly contribute to Uganda’s economic progress and the well-being of its people. Let us work together to build an intelligent Uganda.”
