Ugandan businessman and political commentator Frank Gashumba has expressed disappointment over the country’s growing political divisions, saying he fears facing verbal attacks if he attends the burial of his longtime friend, comedian Yokana Mbuuse, popularly known as Kapeere.
Kapeere, a known supporter of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, died suddenly on November 1, 2026, after reportedly collapsing during a school event.
Speaking about the situation, Gashumba lamented that political differences have reached a point where even attending the funeral of a friend has become difficult. He reportedly fears being verbally abused by NUP supporters because of his political association with the ruling establishment.
Gashumba also challenged those who treat Bobi Wine as their exclusive political property, arguing that he and other individuals, including Kasozi and the late Muhammad Ssegirinya, played significant roles in helping Kyagulanyi rise to his current political prominence.

The businessman, who is associated with Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), questioned why political disagreements should overshadow personal friendships and the need to mourn someone they once shared close relationships with.
His remarks have reignited debate about political intolerance in Uganda, particularly how partisan divisions are increasingly affecting personal relationships, friendships and even funeral gatherings.
