The death toll from the collapse of two residential buildings in Fez continues to rise as rescue teams work tirelessly through the debris.

According to local authorities, 19 people have been confirmed dead, while 16 others have been injured, some of them in critical condition. The two adjacent four-story buildings, home to eight families, crumbled suddenly, trapping dozens beneath the rubble and sending residents fleeing into the streets.

For the people of Al-Moustakbal, it was a night marked by fear, confusion, and desperate hope. Witnesses described hearing a deep rumble before the structures gave way, followed by cries for help that echoed through the neighborhood.

Local authorities, security services, and civil protection units were immediately deployed to the site. A large security perimeter was established to secure the area, and residents of nearby buildings were swiftly evacuated to prevent further casualties in case of additional collapses.

Ambulances rushed the injured to the University Hospital Center of Fez, where medical teams have been working around the clock to provide urgent care. As of Wednesday morning, search and rescue teams continue combing through the wreckage, relying on specialized equipment and trained dogs to locate potential survivors.

Despite the grim statistics, rescuers remain hopeful. “As long as there is a chance someone is alive, we will keep digging,” one civil protection officer said.

The cause of the collapse has not yet been officially determined, but authorities have launched an investigation to understand what led to this devastating incident.

For now, the Al-Moustakbal community waits, hoping for miracles, mourning their losses, and looking for answers.
