Kampala, Uganda — Detectives conducting searches at the homes of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among were reportedly left shocked on Sunday after allegedly recovering several items believed to be associated with traditional witchcraft practices.

According to sources familiar with the ongoing operation, investigators recovered herbs, charms, and other materials commonly associated with traditional shrines operated by witch doctors.

The reported discovery has sparked widespread debate on social media, with many Ugandans expressing surprise given the former Speaker’s public association with religious activities, including several reported visits to Rome where she met the Pope.

Sources further claimed that some of the herbs and traditional items were allegedly placed on top of papers containing photographs of Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and President Yoweri Museveni.

The allegations have not yet been independently verified by authorities, and security agencies had not issued an official statement by Sunday evening regarding the reported recovery.

The incident has nevertheless reignited discussions about the continued influence of traditional beliefs and witchcraft practices in parts of African society, including among prominent public figures.

Investigations into the matter are still ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as detectives continue with their operations.
