FUTA President Accuses KACITA Chair of Blocking Flood Compensation

The Ankole Times

The president of the Federation of Uganda Traders Association (FUTA), John Kabanda, has accused the Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) national chairperson, Issa Ssekitto, of delaying compensation for traders affected by last year’s Nakivubo drainage channel floods.

The floods, which hit Kampala in 2025, destroyed shops, goods, and stalls along the Nakivubo channel, leaving many traders facing heavy losses. The government had set aside funds to compensate those affected.

Kabanda claims Ssekitto requested a list of traders slated for compensation, arguing that some names were fake. He allegedly advised Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja not to release the funds, saying he wanted to re-register the traders to ensure the money went to the right people.

Ssekitto, however, defended his actions, saying he is acting in the best interest of traders. He added that his experience in trader-related issues helps him identify people attempting to fraudulently benefit from the compensation. He says he is working closely with government officials to ensure only legitimate traders receive the funds.
