Uganda to Host 1st Real Estate and Housing Expo in September 2025

Kampala, Uganda – The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, in collaboration with Douglas Events Ltd, the Uganda Society of Architects (USA), and the Surveyors Registration Board (SRB), has announced the inaugural Uganda Real Estate and Housing Expo (UREHE) 2025. The event is set to take place from 26th to 28th September 2025 at Kati Kati Grounds, Lugogo, under the theme: “Resilient by Design, Affordable by Intent: Shaping the Future of Real Estate.”

The Expo aims to bring together government officials, investors, developers, and innovators to discuss and showcase solutions for Uganda’s growing real estate and housing sector. Key industry stakeholders supporting the event include the Uganda National Association of Builders, Suppliers, and Engineering Contractors (UNABSEC), Interior Designers Association of Uganda (IDAU), Association of Real Estate Agents Uganda (AREA Uganda), Buganda Land Board (BLB), and the Global Institute of Property Studies (GIPS).

Conference Highlights
The Expo will open with a high-level conference on 26th September, hosted at Kati Kati Murchison Hall, featuring discussions on:

  • Digital innovation in Uganda’s property market (PropTech Revolution)
  • Diaspora capital and collective investment models
  • Balancing sustainable construction with affordability
  • Government policies and regulatory frameworks
  • Strategies for transforming informal settlements into sustainable communities
  • Investment trends in Uganda’s real estate sector

The Guest of Honour, Hon. Persis Namuganza, Minister of State for Housing, will officially open the conference. Attendance is capped at 200 participants, with registration free for government agencies, investors, developers, financial institutions, NGOs, and housing advocates.

Exhibition Features
The three-day exhibition will host over 300 exhibitors from across East Africa, showcasing innovations in:

  • Sustainable construction and eco-friendly materials
  • Affordable housing and urban planning
  • Finance, investment, and property management solutions
  • Policy, legal, and professional services
  • Interior design, mixed-use developments, and lifestyle innovations
  • Smart home technologies and renewable energy solutions

The Expo is expected to attract more than 6,000 visitors, including developers, financiers, architects, policymakers, and the public.

Importance to Uganda’s Economy
Uganda’s real estate sector contributes around 11% of GDP, with construction activity valued at UGX 2.6 trillion in 2023/24. The Expo seeks to address challenges such as housing affordability, rapid urbanization at 5.7% annual growth, and climate-resilient infrastructure needs.

According to Mrs. Dorcus W. Okalany, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry, UREHE 2025 will foster strategic partnerships to accelerate sustainable urban development and innovative solutions for Uganda’s housing market.
