Capital FM presenter, Gaetano Kaggwa, surprised listeners when he announced that he would hook up with his ex-girlfriend, Abby Brigette Plaatjes. The couple shocked audiences across the continent when they had intimate relations on air during the inaugural season of Big Brother Africa in 2003.
Representing Uganda, Gaetano did not hold back in demonstrating his attraction to the South African lady. This act captured widespread attention and made them well-known throughout the continent.
They became the first couple ever to engage in live sexual intercourse during the show’s broadcast. Discussing this experience on the Morning Breakfast Show he co-hosts with Lucky Mbabazi, Gaetano expressed that he has no regrets and would repeat it if given the chance.
“It wasn’t a blunder. I signed up, went in, and acted on it. There were numerous things I did in the house that left people wondering. My interactions with Abby on TV made people curious about how I could perform such acts on screen before a global audience.”
“When I reflect on it, I think, So what? I would do it again just as I did before; I wouldn’t alter a single detail. I enjoyed it. We had no guidance from any previous Big Brother Africa, as we were the first season. I couldn’t really decide what to do or not to do.”
“But if I were to go back, I would approach it the same way I did previously,” Gaetano shared.
Upon his return to Uganda, he received a hero’s welcome, with the road from Entebbe Airport to Kampala being closed off. Gaetano even had the opportunity to meet President Museveni and was honored with songs written about him. Unfortunately, he also became a topic of moral discussion in schools, particularly within Religious Education Studies.
Gaetano and Abby were in a relationship for a short time before they split and moved on to other partners.
