Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has come out in defence of Hon. Daudi Kabanda, telling those involved in the ongoing political exchanges to leave the Kasambya County legislator alone.
Muhoozi described Kabanda as a political ally who has consistently defended him in public and indicated that he does not want the legislator drawn further into the disagreements surrounding him and veteran politician Gen. Kahinda Otafiire.
“Leave Hon. Kabanda alone. He is my Hon. Otafiire,” Muhoozi said in his latest message, signalling his support for Kabanda amid the continuing exchanges.
The statement comes against the background of a public disagreement that intensified in June 2026, after Otafiire made remarks concerning alleged extrajudicial killings involving officers attached to the Crime Intelligence Directorate.
Kabanda subsequently criticised Otafiire, arguing that some historical members of the NRA and NRM were using criticism of Muhoozi to indirectly target President Yoweri Museveni. Kabanda specifically named Otafiire in his criticism.
The Kasambya MP also questioned why Otafiire would remain in government while criticising alleged abuses by government security agencies. His comments added to the political exchanges between supporters of Muhoozi and Otafiire.
Muhoozi later responded to Otafiire himself, warning that the veteran politician had “provoked lions enough” and was “dangerously close to being arrested,” according to reports at the time.
Kabanda has repeatedly been publicly associated with Muhoozi and has defended the General against criticism. In previous comments, he has argued that attacks directed at Muhoozi sometimes reflect wider disagreements within the ruling National Resistance Movement.
The latest statement from Muhoozi therefore brings Kabanda back into focus as the disagreements involving Muhoozi and Otafiire continue to generate public debate. Muhoozi’s words also underline his stated support for Kabanda in the ongoing political exchanges.
The disagreements involving the three figures have attracted attention because they bring together senior figures from different generations of Uganda’s political establishment. Otafiire has previously expressed opposition to Muhoozi’s presidential ambitions, while Kabanda has publicly defended Muhoozi and his political activities.
Muhoozi’s latest message is therefore being viewed in the context of those continuing disagreements, with the General making it clear that he does not want Hon. Daudi Kabanda targeted as the political exchanges involving him and Gen. Kahinda Otafiire continue.
