Amolatar, Uganda – In a significant political development, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has officially nominated Dr. Agnes Atim Apea, the incumbent Woman Member of Parliament for Amolatar District, to represent the party as its flag bearer in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
The nomination, which took place today, solidifies Dr. Apea’s bid for re-election as she seeks to continue her service to the people of Amolatar.
A Proven Leader with a Heart for Development
Dr. Agnes Atim Apea, a dedicated legislator and community advocate, has been a strong voice for Amolatar District since her initial election. Known for her grassroots mobilization and commitment to women’s empowerment, education, and healthcare, her nomination by the NRM underscores the party’s confidence in her leadership.
During her tenure, Dr. Apea has championed several key initiatives, including:
Education Advocacy: She has successfully lobbied for the construction of Etam, Arwotcek, Akwon, and Agikdak seed schools, Agikdak SDA Secondary School, and the construction of Aninolal and Akuriluba Primary schools. She also oversaw the renovation of Aputi Primary School, among others, and secured scholarships for needy students, ensuring education remains a priority in Amolatar.
Healthcare Improvements: Recognizing the district’s health challenges, she has lobbied for the construction of a children’s ward at Amolatar HCIII and a theater at Amai Hospital. She has also provided beds and mama kits, contributing to better-equipped health centers and increased access to maternal care, thereby helping to reduce maternal and child mortality rates.
Women & Youth Empowerment: Through economic programs and skills training, she has fundraised 50 million Ugandan Shillings to initiate the construction of a youth skills development center. She has also supported women and youth in entrepreneurship by providing saving boxes and seed capital to all 650 villages in Amolatar, helping them start small businesses and become self-reliant.
Agriculture Development: Dr. Apea has contributed significantly to the development of agriculture in Amolatar and across the country through various efforts. These include drafting, legislating, and passing the Fish and Aquaculture Bill to improve fisheries and fishers’ livelihoods, advocating for farmer-friendly policies in parliament (such as minimum price guarantees, crop insurance, and tax waivers), and increasing budget allocations to agriculture.
She has also promoted local irrigation projects in Namasale and Etam, facilitated training programs for farmers, established rice and maize mills in Amolatar and Namasale for value addition and to reduce post-harvest losses, and connected farmers to micro-support centers, providing maize seeds and poultry chicks to farmers, widows, youth, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
Infrastructure Development: Dr. Apea has worked closely with government agencies to improve roads and water access, addressing long-standing challenges in the district. She successfully lobbied for 1.2 billion Ugandan Shillings to construct the district administration offices, a project that is currently underway.
