Hon. Maxwell Akora, the Member of Parliament for Maruzi County, has shifted his political focus to contest for the Apac Municipality MP seat in the 2026 general elections. In recent weeks, he has engaged with over 900 Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party structures, receiving a warm reception and significant support for his bid.

During a press briefing held at his residence in Apac Municipality on Sunday, Akora stated that he had consulted extensively with party structures in villages, parishes, and divisions ahead of the UPC party primaries. He emphasized that his decision to contest for the Apac Municipality seat was driven by his desire to strengthen the UPC party and improve service delivery for the people of the municipality.

In a turn of events, several UPC party structures in Apac Municipality have endorsed Akora as their candidate for the 2026 elections. This endorsement was formalized during a consultative meeting held last week at Akora’s residence, where he met with party leaders from four different divisions within the municipality: Akere, Agulu, Atik, and Arocha.

Key UPC officials and grassroots leaders are now consolidating support for Akora’s move from Maruzi County to Apac Municipality. Ogang Christopher, the chairperson of the UPC in Atik Division, confirmed the endorsement, explaining that the decision was made after extensive consultations with party members. Similarly, Robson Ebong, the UPC chairperson for Arocha Division, expressed unanimous support for Akora’s candidacy, both in the UPC primaries and the general elections.

“The members have agreed that MP Akora must contest in the municipality, and we are fully behind him,” Ebong stated.

Jasper Orec, the chairman of UPC in Agulu Division, also confirmed the endorsement, saying, “Our members have spoken, and they want MP Akora Maxwell to represent them in the municipality.”

Akora also emphasized the importance of registering with the UPC to vote in the upcoming elections. He urged party members to ensure they have official UPC party cards, which are necessary to participate in the election process. “This meeting was to alert the UPC party structures to register their names in the party book. To vote, you must have a party card, and you must be a known member of the party as we await the party’s roadmap,” he explained.

Akora’s decision to shift his political ambition from Maruzi County to Apac Municipality has garnered widespread support from various sectors, including the local community, business leaders, and UPC grassroots structures. His growing popularity and the strong backing from UPC structures both within and outside Apac Municipality indicate that he is a strong contender for the 2026 MP seat.

A prominent woman from Agulu Division, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that the political landscape in Apac Municipality is shifting, with many voters now focusing on Akora. She believes that his chances of securing the UPC ticket and ultimately winning the Apac Municipality MP seat in 2026 are strong.

The Electoral Commission has already released the roadmap for the 2026 general elections, and Akora is positioning himself as a leading candidate in the race for Apac Municipality MP.
