Kampala, Uganda — October 18, 2025
The Indian community in Uganda is set to light up the shores of Lake Victoria this Sunday as they celebrate Diwali — the Festival of Lights — with a grand cultural and food festival at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
Organized by the Indian Association of Uganda (IAU) in partnership with the High Commission of India and the Ruparelia Group, this year’s edition promises to be more than just a festival — it’s a colorful reunion of cultures, cuisines, and community spirit.
According to IAU Chairman Paresh Mehta, the event will feature a dazzling lineup of performances, traditional music and dance, children’s activities, and an elaborate fireworks display to crown the evening. “Diwali is not just a Hindu festival; it’s a celebration of light conquering darkness — a message that resonates with everyone,” Mehta said.
The festival will also feature the Annual Food Fair, a crowd favorite, offering a culinary journey through India’s diverse regions — from spicy street snacks to classic sweets — prepared by both local and visiting chefs.
Beyond the food and fun, the event highlights the Indian community’s strong ties with Uganda. The Indian High Commission described it as “a living bridge between our peoples — a celebration of friendship, harmony, and shared prosperity.”
The Diwali celebration is open to the public, with hundreds of guests expected to attend, including dignitaries, business leaders, and families from across the country.
As the sun sets over Lake Victoria this Sunday, Munyonyo is expected to glow — not just with lamps and fireworks, but with the shared joy of a community celebrating unity through light.
