Okidi Patrick, Obongi – The office of the Obongi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) has recovered over one million shillings from PDM SACCO leaders in Obongi town council who had illegally collected it from PDM beneficiaries.

The over one million shillings was collected from PDM beneficiaries in Arinya, Yakinemiji, Jordan, and Kenya cells in Yakinemiji ward, Obongi town council.

The recovery of the money and arrest of 12 SACCO leaders occurred during routine monitoring of PDM activities by the Obongi RDC’s office in Yakinemiji ward, Obongi town council.

PDM beneficiaries complained to the RDC that those who did not pay between 10,000 shillings and 15,000 shillings were denied PDM funds.

During a meeting attended by the town clerk, commercial officer, town council vice chairperson, Community Development Officer (CDO), town agents, and SACCO leaders, PDM beneficiaries complained that SACCO leaders were canceling the names of those who did not pay the illegal fees.

Obongi RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka played a short video of the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Raphael Magyezi, informing Parliament that it is illegal for PDM beneficiaries to pay any money to be considered for PDM funds.

The RDC said the 12 arrested have been detained at Obongi Central Police Station and will be arraigned in court on charges of acquiring money through false pretense.
