3 Dangerous Inmates Escape Mityana Prison, Police Hunt Ongoing

Mityana District, Uganda – Police are actively searching for three male inmates who escaped from Mityana government prison on December 6, 2023, around 4:00 PM. The escaped prisoners are:

  • Mfitumukiza Francis, 24, from Rubange village, Murora sub-county, Kisoro district: Facing charges of murder and aggravated robbery.
  • Nasasira Gideon, 37, from Muko village, Muko sub-county, Rubanda district: Charged with aggravated robbery.
  • Hakiza Joseph, 27, from Nyarubuye village, Katobo Parish, Nyarubuye sub-county, Kisoro district: Facing charges of aggravated defilement.

According to Police spokesperson for Wamala Region, Racheal Kawala, the inmates managed to jump over the prison fence while being escorted back to their wards after a meal. Kawala confirmed that there were initially four escapees, but one has been recaptured.




Authorities have registered a case of escape from lawful custody under Mityana CRB 1197 and are actively searching for the remaining three inmates.
