Thousands Gather in Soroti and Dokolo to Pay Respects to Cecilia Ogwal

Thursday, January 25, 2024

Thousands of mourners assembled at Soroti Independence Ground to pay their respects to the late Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal, the Dokolo District Woman Member of Parliament. The body of the deceased spent nearly an hour on the ground, where supporters of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), led by party President Patrick Oboi Amuriat, joined thousands of others to view the body.

Mourners, however, expressed disappointment as they couldn’t view the body due to its late arrival. The body reached Abalang trading center in Kaberamaido, bordering Dokolo district, by 9:30 PM, where a gathering of Lango district political and technical leaders, religious figures, and businesspeople awaited.

Despite the late arrival, mourners at Dokolo Town and other trading centers patiently waited to pay their respects. The body was finally received at her home in Alyecowe village, Adok sub-county, reaching there at 11:00 PM. Religious leaders from Lango Diocese, led by Bishop Emeritus John Charles Odur Kami, consoled the gathered mourners and encouraged them to emulate Cecilia Atim’s exemplary life.

James Otto Apili, the Dokolo District LCV chairperson, shared his personal connection with the late MP and expressed his deep sorrow over the gap left by her demise. Cecilia Atim’s body will spend the night at her paternal home in Adok sub-county, leaving for Dokolo Technical School the next day. A joint council meeting, in her honor, will take place on Wednesday, followed by the final burial on Saturday.
