34 Tonnes of Kerosene Saved as Police Recover Robbed Tanker

A fuel tanker that was robbed at gunpoint on October 21, 2023, has been recovered from Jinja City. The tanker was carrying 34 tonnes of kerosene and was on its way from Kenya to Kampala.

Police say that the tanker was intercepted by a group of five armed thugs at Bukoyo Village, along the Iganga-Jinja highway. The thugs tied up the driver and bundled him into the boot of their getaway car.




The tanker was driven to Jinja City, where it was abandoned by the thugs. Police were able to track down the tanker and recover it, along with all of the kerosene.




The driver of the tanker was found dumped in Kakira sugar plantation. He was given first aid and his statement was recorded at Iganga police station.




Police are currently investigating the incident and are working to identify and arrest the suspects.

Police Spokesperson Fred Enaga has commended the police response teams from the Kiira region, Busoga East, Jinja city, and Iganga, for their swift response and coordination, which led to the successful recovery of the trailer and its goods.

He further called upon all truck drivers to call the National Operations Command Center on telephone numbers 0800199399, 0800199699 and report any suspicious activity.
