The police spokesperson in the North Kyoga Police Region has issued a statement concerning the arrest of a suspect with counterfeit notes in Lira City East Division.
The territorial police in Lira City East Division are holding a lady identified as Akumu Conni, aged 36, after she was suspected of having fake notes worth 1,690,000 UGX.
According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the police PRO for North Kyoga Region, this follows a complaint registered by one Okello George, a businessman in Amach trading center.
It is alleged that Connie moved into about four different shops in Amach trading center, buying shop items with fake currencies on December 22, 2023.
She was arrested and found in possession of fake money in 20,000 UGX notes, amounting to 1,690,000 UGX.
Currently, she is being detained at Lira City East Division in Amach as investigations continue.
The Police spokesperson for North Kyoga Region, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, has once again reminded members of the public to remain vigilant and to quickly report to the police for arrest, investigation, and prosecution if such incidents are noticed in their area.
