In the recently held African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMAs) on September 17, 2023, artists Eddy Kenzo, Spice Diana, and Azawi from East Africa were unable to secure any awards. The event, which took place in Texas, USA, saw winners from various African countries.
Diamond Platnumz emerged as the East Africa Artiste of the Year, prevailing over tough competition from Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Nyashinski (Kenya), Mbosso (Tanzania), Bien (Kenya), Harmonize (Tanzania), Meddy (Rwanda), and Single Dee (South Sudan).
The title of Best Female Artiste East Africa was awarded to Kenyan artiste Nadia Mukami. She outshone Spice Diana, Azawi, Maua Sama (Tanzania), Zuchu (Tanzania), Nikita Kering (Kenya), Fena Gitu (Kenya), Nandy (Tanzania), and Hewan Gebrewold (Ethiopia) in this category.
Rema from Nigeria was crowned the Artiste of the Year, with King Promise (Ghana) securing Best Male West Africa and Ayra Star (Nigeria) winning Best Female West Africa. Fabregas from DR Congo received the title of Best Male Central Africa, while AKA from South Africa was named Best Male South Africa. Nadia Nakai was awarded Best Female South Africa, Flavour from Nigeria won the Best Live Act Award, and Mike Kalambay from DR Congo received the Best Gospel Award.
The Album of the Year accolade went to Davido’s “Timeless” music album, and Fally Ipupa from DR Congo emerged as the night’s biggest winner with two awards, Best Francophone Artiste, and Lifetime Achievement.
