In the Eric Maigo murder case, it has been established that the primary suspect, Anne Adhiambo, is both over 18 years old and mentally capable of standing trial. Doctors at Nairobi’s Mathari Hospital conducted an evaluation, concluding that Adhiambo is a mentally sound adult.
Initial reports suggested that Adhiambo might be a minor between the ages of 17 and 18. However, the recent tests have determined her age to be between 20 and 21 years.
Adhiambo was captured on CCTV cameras while fleeing Eric Maigo’s residence in Woodley Estate on September 15. She attempted to escape by jumping over a fence. On September 26, after a public tip-off and a detective-led manhunt, she was apprehended in the Olympic area of Kibra.
Eric Maigo, the Finance Director of Nairobi Hospital, was discovered in his home with 25 stab wounds. The motive behind his murder is still under investigation.
Following her arraignment on September 27, the prosecution requested additional time for further investigations into Adhiambo’s mental state and readiness for trial. On the 28th of this month, after 21 days have passed, she will be formally charged with the murder of the Nairobi Hospital Finance Director.
Anne Akinyi Adhiambo has already provided a statement to the police and will await her trial proceedings after the 21-day period.
In a modest, media-free ceremony, Eric Maigo was laid to rest at his family’s residence in Kiumbu, Kisii County. His family expressed concerns about media misreporting and urged the authorities to ensure justice is served. Maigo’s grandfather, in a statement, called for an end to violence and emphasized the importance of respecting life.
