Today, Maj Gen Francis M Takirwa, the Deputy Commander of Land Forces of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF), officially sent off the Uganda delegation for the 13th East African Community (EAC) Armed Forces Field Training Exercise. This event, called USHIRIKIANO IMARA 2024, took place in a vibrant ceremony at the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy (NCOA) in Jinja City.

The exercise runs under the theme “Strengthening Security Sector Interests and Integration for Regional Peace and Stability.” Its main goal is to improve the abilities of the armed forces, police, civilian components, and other stakeholders from the partner states to work together in handling complex security issues.

This training exercise includes participants from four countries: Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. The purpose is to increase the readiness and cooperation of these countries’ armed forces, police, civilian components, and other stakeholders. They will focus on planning and carrying out integrated missions that cover peace support operations, disaster management, counter-terrorism, and counter-piracy.

Maj Gen Takirwa encouraged the participants to behave professionally and maintain discipline throughout the exercise to achieve the desired results. The Field Training Exercise will take place from June 7th to June 26th, 2024.
