Airtel Uganda Donates 500 Sim Cards and Enhances Connectivity for NAM and G-77+China Summits

As Uganda prepares to host the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G-77+China summits, Airtel Uganda has stepped up its commitment by donating 500 phone Sim-Cards loaded with airtime worth sh50,000 to delegates attending the two prestigious events. The telecommunications company has also been selected as the alternate official internet service provider for the summits.

Airtel Uganda has installed 5G connectivity at the Speke Resort Convention Centre and inside the conference rooms, ensuring robust connectivity throughout the summits. The company has extended its efforts to enhance connectivity in 49 other sites across Kampala Capital City, with a total investment of sh90 million.




Manoj Murali, the Managing Director of Airtel Uganda, handed over the sim cards and connectivity gadgets to Dr. Aminah Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of ICT and National Guidance. Expressing pride in their role as the alternate official Internet Service Provider, Murali highlighted Airtel’s commitment to digital inclusivity and progress.




Airtel Uganda has pledged to provide airtime worth sh50,000 to accredited journalists covering the summits, facilitating smooth communication during the events. The company’s extensive preparations include the installation of boosters at key locations such as Nambiriggwa Bridge and along the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway to prevent network disruptions for delegates in transit.




Murali emphasized the symbolic importance of the summits, stating, “This summit is not just an assembly; it is a symbol of solidarity, cooperation, and mutual respect among 120 nations. Airtel Uganda is honored to support their crucial conversations by providing both 5G and fibre cable internet connectivity for the duration of the summit.”

Dr. Zawedde praised Airtel for their positive response and generosity, emphasizing the need for collaboration between the government and various stakeholders for successful digital transformation.
