AMOLATAR, UGANDA – The Amolatar Women’s Mills is poised for a major transformation, with women at the facility unanimously agreeing to officially revamp its value addition section by the end of November 2026. The ambitious plan includes fixing all five planned value addition mills at the facility, a move expected to boost joint production, bulking, and marketing among women in the district.
The facility, donated by the President in 2010, is located in Amolatar Town Council along Ochero Road. According to Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Obonyo Magwar, who attended a monthly savings meeting of the women at the facility on October 15, 2026, the five modern mills will process maize, rice and cassava. The women also plan to recruit an accountant and an armed Askari to strengthen the facility’s management and security.
The women also unanimously resolved to host the Amolatar Poultry Expo 2026 at the same facility on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, starting at 8:00 am.
The expo, which will focus on showcasing value addition in the poultry value chain, is expected to attract women from across the district. Hon. Woman MP Jannet Auma Okao has been invited to officially open the expo, while the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Hon. Mercy, is proposed to officiate at its closure.
“This facility was donated by the President in 2010 and is now attracting many women towards joint production, bulking, and marketing,” Magwar said. “The expo will include exhibitions, trainings, messages, sharing of ideas in organised stalls, and pictorial displays.”
The November 25 expo will feature a wide range of activities aimed at transforming the poultry value chain in Amolatar. According to Magwar, the exhibition will include the packaging process of chicken products, herbal and contemporary treatment methods for poultry, and poultry variety improvement methods, including castrating in-breed cocks for better quality cocks.
Feeding and caging methods for commercial and domestic poultry breeding will also be showcased, with both traditional local breeds and modern improved breeds on display to help farmers make better choices.
The expo is expected to draw feeds manufacturers, companies involved in hatching chicks, veterinary companies, chicken wholesalers, researchers and many other partners in the poultry value chain.
When asked where they would prefer the expo to be held, the women chanted “chuma amon,” referring to the popular vicinity around the value addition facility donated by the President.
In a related development, the management and membership of Amolatar Women’s Mills have invited Magwar to attend a planning meeting focused on cleaning around the highway to Ochero and inside the facility, scheduled for Friday, October 30, 2026.
On the same day, the women plan to save funds in their SACCO, hold further planning meetings for receiving the Gender Minister and their Woman MP, and receive five seed planting machines donated by a local NGO, Northern Greenfields Africa. The machines are expected to reduce the burden of hand planting and steer women into commercial production, bulking, and marketing.
Magwar donated over 50 kilograms of hibiscus seeds to the women and urged them not to consume the hibiscus only as a vegetable but to add value by packing powdered hibiscus for tea and processing highly medicinal juice from the petals for additional income.
Each woman who attended the meeting was also given two robusta elite coffee seedlings to plant, but were encouraged to buy more and expand their coffee gardens.
Challenged on why they are not developing, one of the women retorted, “We are developing and soon fixing all the planned five value addition mills in the facility by end of November 2026.”
The women further boasted of sending messengers to invite the Woman MP and the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs to grace the expo, which they hope will change the scope of business around the poultry value chain.
“All women in Amolatar are invited for the special cleaning day and expo falling on 30th October 2026 and 25th November 2026 respectively,” they added.
Magwar called upon all stakeholders to support the women in their quest to add value in production, noting that the initiative will go a long way in transforming livelihoods in Amolatar District.
