Amuru, Uganda: Mr. Odong Latek, the RDC of Amuru, has sparked tension with Deputy RDC Acham Proscovia following his comments on an online media house about the purpose of her official vehicle.
In a phone interview with our reporter, Acham expressed surprise and distanced herself from the recent news article circulating on social media. Latek was quoted saying, “Office of the President Donates Vehicle To Amuru for Balalo Eviction Operations,” suggesting that Acham’s new vehicle was specifically meant for Balalo eviction.
“I am totally surprised and distancing myself from the recent news article making rounds on social media, whereby RDC Amuru Mr. Odong Latek was quoted saying that ‘Office of the President Donates Vehicle To Amuru for Balalo Eviction Operations,'” said Acham. “Let it be clear that my vehicle Registration number UG 4823C is not just meant for evicting Balalo from Amuru but it is for service delivery,” she added.
Acham Proscovia emphasized her awareness of executive order number 3 and stated that all deputy RDCs have been given vehicles and escorts. She urged Latek to refrain from commenting on online newspapers and social media if he doesn’t understand the role of the vehicle provided in the line of duty to RDCs, Deputy RDCs, and DISO’s office.
Latek insisted that the vehicle is timely and will aid in the operation for Balalo eviction. He also mentioned that the vehicle, belonging to the office of the president, could be transferred with Acham if she were to be moved to another district.
Acham Proscovia, known as “Kisanza hakuna muchezu,” previously worked in Abim district around 2020-2021, and she is recognized as a no-nonsense lady. She served effectively in Kwania and Apac as Deputy RDC, combating corruption, defilement, and wetland encroachment.
Acham promised to expose any wrongdoing in Amuru if Latek continues with negative statements. Latek, a known NRM mobilizer, served as Gulu RCC and was reappointed to the district of Amuru as RDC.
One anonymous Deputy RDC mentioned that there are no instructions specifying that the vehicles given to them should be for Balalo eviction. Another Deputy RDC from a district in Lango sub-region stated that the vehicles are meant for transportation, monitoring government programs, and other state duties but not specifically for local government task force or district local government activities.
When contacted, the Minister for Presidency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, declined to comment, citing her unavailability at the moment.
