A team from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs received a very warm welcome in Amuru district by a section of veterans as they received the good news of the government supporting them through agriculture.
The team, led by Col. Isaac Ojwilo, who is the commander of Reserved Forces for the 4th and 5th Divisions, and accompanied by Afande Elvis (welfare), among others, commended the government for recognizing the veterans by coming up with a good initiative to fund them through agriculture to be practiced on their respective pieces of land.
Acham Proscovia, the Deputy RDC of Amuru district, revealed that each of the veterans will allocate a piece of land for themselves where they will invest the government support to improve their household income and employment.
Proscovia added that when the money gets into their accounts (veterans), they should use it for the right purposes, such as supporting school fee payments for their children, but they should not use it for marrying another woman.
According to her, the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs shall go ahead to provide free medical services at any nearby military medical facilities.
These free medical services will also be available for their spouses, children, or family members but not for friends of the veterans.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Amuru district, Ms. Proscovia Acham, has advised the veterans to utilize the money that will be given to them properly and for the correct agricultural purposes.
In her speech while addressing the press later, Acham appreciated the team from the Ministry of Defence and Veterinary Affairs for sacrificing their time and personally making it to the ground to brief the veterans on such a useful program made for them by the government of the NRM.
The Amuru Deputy RDC, Proscovia Acham, has commended the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. General Yoweri Museveni Kaguta, for supporting the veterans through wealth creation via agriculture.
Several veterans will soon benefit from the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs in all the sub-counties of Amuru district.
