There was much joy among participants and onlookers as the Miss Tourism Northern Uganda cluster, accompanied by Lira City authorities, planted trees in the Mayor’s garden on Monday morning.
Assistant RCC for Lira City, Boney Otucu, commended Miss Tourism Northern Uganda, stating, “We are very delighted to partner with Miss Tourism Northern Uganda in planting trees in the Mayor’s Garden. This initiative is crucial for environmental change, and we must embrace greening our community.”
Otucu further thanked Lira City authorities and the National Forest Authority for facilitating Miss Tourism Northern Uganda and providing space for tree planting, which contributes to greening part of Lira City.
Stephen Odongo, Deputy RCC of Lira City East Division, representing RCC Egole Lawrence, emphasized the importance of greening initiatives, stating, “Greening is beautification and essential for everyone to participate in such activities. It plays a significant role in climate change mitigation and improves soil fertility.”
Ms. Alele Gloria, the cluster coordinator for Miss Tourism Northern Uganda, explained their choice of Mayor’s Garden, noting, “It’s a central gathering place for many people and conveniently accessible.” She added, “This greening initiative is part of Miss Tourism Uganda’s broader agenda.”
Gloria highlighted their outreach to schools, where they also planted trees to educate students about climate change and promote greening efforts across Uganda.
The greening event in Lira received support from the National Forest Authority (NFA) and Uganda Red Cross Society, according to Gloria Alele.
