Archbishop Ssemwogerere rallies Ugandans to embrace National Identification renewal

Kampala, Uganda  – The Archbishop of Kampala Diocese His Grace Paul Ssemwogerere, has called upon all Ugandans to embrace the National identification renewal.

Archbishop Ssemwogerere made this clarion call after renewing his National ID at his premises in Rubaga Cathedral on Monday 18 August 2025.




Archbishop Ssemwogerere, thanked the National Identification Authority (NIRA) for the tremendous work they are doing to make sure that all Ugandans are recorded and registered. He also appreciated NIRA officials for giving him a special priority of coming to his residence to register him together with Rubaga Cathedral officials because of their busy schedules doing church work.




The Archbishop, further emphasised that it is very important for Uganda carry out the exercise of registering it’s citizens because it is one way of proving that you are a Ugandan. He noted that when you register it also shows that you are a law abiding because this is biblical when Jesus’ father Joseph together with his wife Mary and baby Jesus obeyed the laws by participating in registering themselves.




Additionally, the Archbishop recalled that traditionally ancient Buganda Kingdom used to record and register its people.

Conclusively, the Archbishop urged all Ugandans to make sure that they are registered with NIRA during the exercise of renewing IDs in the whole country because it helps the government to know who they are, what they are and where they stay among others thus getting adequate service delivery.

In addition government will be able to identify criminals and other wrongdoers. “I am now very happy that I have been registered by NIRA and I’m now recognised in the country,” said the Archbishop.




The exercise was also officiated by Rubaga Division Deputy Resident City Commissioner (DRCC) Moses Ariho who extended his vote of thanks to the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese for embracing all government exercises especially identification renewal.

He implored all Ugandans especially Rubaga residents to follow the example of the Archbishop as a cleric whon renewed his national ID willfully.

He used the same opportunity to inform Ugandans that the exercise is free of charge warning all NIRA officials that if one is caught charging any funds from Ugandans will face the law. “For Rubaga residents, my office is open, come and report any official who asks for money to register you,” DRCC Ariho stated.
