National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Robert Kyagulanyi, commonly known as Bobi Wine, has expressed worry about officials within the party, including Members of Parliament, who are allegedly collaborating with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to undermine the progress of the opposition party. During a gathering at the thanksgiving mass for the late Frank Ssenteza, Kyagulanyi identified Njeru and Bukoto in Buganda as areas where such issues are becoming problematic and urged the party to address them.
Kyagulanyi, accompanied by NUP officials, including former Leader of Opposition in Parliament Mathias Mpuuga, successor Joel Ssenyonyi, and party Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya, called for the identification and possible sanctioning of saboteurs within the Buganda region. Without providing specific details, he mentioned that some individuals within the party are allegedly using NUP platforms to benefit from the NRM government.
“We have legislators (MPs) who have made it a tendency to work with the ruling NRM government. Some people are using our platforms to benefit from the ruling NRM government. They hoodwink us to believe that they are part of us yet they work for our enemy,” he stated.
Kyagulanyi urged Mpuuga to address issues in Bukoto and Njeru, emphasizing the need to resolve problems caused by individuals allegedly collaborating with the government. He expressed regret over the sudden death of Ssenteza and vowed to increase pressure on the government to produce NUP members arrested in connection with the 2021 polls who are yet to face trial.
The late Ssenteza, one of Bobi Wine’s personal bodyguards, died on December 28, 2020, reportedly run over by a military truck at Busega roundabout on the outskirts of Kampala.
At the mass, Parish Priest Fr. Vincent Lusembo challenged the youth to remain focused on pursuing growth and fighting for their rights.
