Pader, Uganda – Business came to a standstill at Pader Town Council, Pajule, Puranga, and Atanga Town Councils as former Pader District Woman MP, Hon. Lowila CD Oketayot, was declared the winner of the hotly contested Pader District NRM chairperson election.
On Friday, May 23, 2025, in a decisive vote held at Mayor’s Grounds, Pader Town Council, Hon. Lowila CD Oketayot polled 589 votes against 211 for her rival, Oyat George Obwoya, who had served as Pader NRM chairperson for 10 years.
Many political observers familiar with Pader politics have weighed in on the matter, saying that with Lowila at the helm of the ruling party as NRM chairperson, it is a sure win for all the right leaders who shall contest in various positions, including LCV chairman.
Another voter in Paipir Luna, Pader Town Council, who spoke on condition of anonymity, jubilated, saying that Pader NRM party members should prepare for a decent celebration of Lowila becoming the next MP in the 2026 general election.
Based on the fact that she is an honest, vibrant, and effective NRM mobilizer with a generous contribution geared towards unity and lobbying, there is hope that Lowila is heading to the 12th Parliament.
“Lowila Christine Dorine, a prominent NRM figure within northern Uganda and in particular Pader District, appears poised for victory in the upcoming NRM Woman MP primaries,” said a former Pader District councilor.
She has been widely recognized as “the brain behind Pader’s development,” celebrated for her active and vibrant approach, and commitment to wealth creation for various women’s VSLA (Village Savings and Loan Associations) groups. Ocaya Goddy Godfrey, commonly known as Boo-Malaba-Laba, who hails from Pajule Town Council, believes that Lowila will elevate NRM structures in Pader and lobby for several projects through socio-economic transformation.
Lowila CD Oketayot, the newly elected NRM Chairperson for Pader District, while speaking to the media in an interview, commended the NRM administration and H.E. Gen. Yoweri Museveni Kaguta for being a vibrant leader who has developed the country through wealth creation.
