Bus Driver on the Run After Head-On Crash Leaves Two Injured in Bushenyi

BUSHENYI, Uganda — Authorities in Bushenyi District are hunting for a bus driver who fled the scene after a head-on collision that left two people injured.

The crash involved a Global bus, registration number UBE 159N, and an Isuzu tipper truck, registration number UBK 390M. It occurred on Friday morning near Peak Hotel along the Ishaka–Mbarara road, close to the former Banyankole Kweteraana Cooperative factory.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the bus driver was attempting to overtake three vehicles when he collided head-on with the oncoming tipper truck.

According to the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa, two people sustained injuries in the crash, but no fatalities were recorded. He added that the driver fled immediately after the accident, and police have launched a manhunt to apprehend him.

Police have attributed the crash to reckless driving and overspeeding, warning motorists to observe traffic regulations to prevent similar incidents.
