Bushenyi: Boda boda riders protest at RDC’s office over suspected murderers’ release

Angry boda boda riders in Bushenyi on Wednesday stormed the office of Resident District commissioner (RDC) accusing Police of releasing two suspects accusded of murdering their colleague two weeks ego.
The angry riders alleged that officers from Bushenyi central police station released Leonard Mpiirwe a mobile money dealer and Vincent, Musinguzi 28  residents of Butare B Cell, Butare Ward, Kyamuhunga Town council both accused of murdering Wilson Asimwe and taking off with his motorcycle..
The deceased was a resident of Nyakatooma Village, Butare ward, Kyamuhunga town coucill in Bushenyi District and dumped his body in Namirembe swamp
“What annoys us is that police never consulted us a complainants before releasing the suspects, we want the RDC and the top District leadership to ask police to launch fresh investigations because we are not satisfied,”  Mr Asiimwe Kabyoga a brother to the deceased said
He added “What was the hurry for in a murder case when all the crews indicated that the two have a hand in the incident, we need fresh investigations and accused should be rearrested,”.
Mr Richard Tugabirwe Kakoni an activist in Bushenyi District said they are receiving threatening messages from the accused after they were released from police Cells on bond.
“We know that government offices work from Monday to Friday but to our surprise the accused were released on Saturday at around 6:00 Pm we don’t want to be like them but we want justice,” said Mr Tugabirwe.
Mr. Daniel Mugisa Kaata the deputy Regional CID greater Bushenyi region said he got information from his bosses in Kampale asking what is happening in Bushenyi.
“After getting information from my bosses in Kampala i had to ask for the file and got it from this morning and I had not read but what I know they had guidance from the resident state attorney. But if there is any thing we will recall the file and start fresh investigations,” he said.
Mr Jafari Basajjabalaba the Bushenyi District chairman said, it’s a big concern , as District leaders, they will have to call a security meeting and look at the file if statements are corresponding with what the people are saying.
“We will have to go back on the ground and have another meeting with local residents beacuse this is a sensitive matter that needs to be handled with much care,” saidMr Basajjabalaba.
Mr Williams Katsigazi the Bushenyi District deputy RDC said, his office will work with all the stake holders to ensure there is justice to the relatives of the deceased.
“Its not in order to detain people who have not committed an offence but also its not fine to release a person who has committed an offence we will look at all angles and will come out with the report and it be released next week on Monday,” said Katsigazi
