The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries is currently engaged in discussions with the Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) to foster collaboration in agricultural research endeavors.
This collaborative effort was disclosed by Uganda’s Minister of Agriculture, Frank Tumwebaze, during the handover ceremony of the chairmanship of ASARECA Council of Ministers to Kenya’s Agriculture and Livestock Development Minister, Mithika Linturi. The ceremony occurred on February 15, 2024, as part of the 3rd ASARECA Council of Patron Ministers held in Nairobi, Kenya.
“We are deliberating on strategies for joint collaboration in agricultural research and emphasizing the significance of influencing our respective governments to prioritize funding for agricultural research. Domestic funding of research will enable the formulation of agendas tailored to address the challenges faced by our communities,” stated Tumwebaze via his Twitter account.
The ministers convened under the theme “Together transforming Agriculture for improved livelihoods, sustainable economic growth, and inclusive development in East and Central Africa,” focusing on supporting ASARECA’s mission to transform agriculture, ensuring sustained economic growth, and fostering inclusive development across the region, as articulated by the ASARECA secretariat.
ASARECA serves as a platform that brings together various African agricultural research bodies, facilitating research collaboration and peer learning initiatives aimed at advancing agricultural development across the continent.
